Work-Based Learning

Employer Registration

Dear Prospective Employer,

North Montco Technical Career Center (NMTCC) offers 23 programs within 7 career cluster areas including Construction Trades, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Engineering & Manufacturing, Health & Human Services, Power & Transportation, and Visual Communications. The school serves approximately 1100 students from 5 surrounding school districts.

We have two work-based learning programs to offer employers: Traditional Intern/Cooperative Education (Co-op) and the Program for Youth Advancement through Applied Practice (PYA2P.). We are always looking for employers that would like to partner with North Montco and our students. Intern/Co-op Students are Seniors who have completed most of their required competencies for their program of study and are recommended for the on-the-job training by their instructors. These students are able to work up to 4 afternoons each week. In some cases, Juniors may be able to meet the requirements for the Co-op program and are able to work up to 3 afternoons each week.

PYA2P is a select, supplemental NMTCC program that combines work-based learning and technical skill development with

entrepreneurship & leadership focused academic coursework. Our PYA2P graduates are leaders in the community! The workplace becomes the classroom. Juniors & Seniors spend part of the week working in industry practicing and learning skills related to their NMTCC technical program of study. (Cosmetology students have more time at NMTCC to earn the required hours for the State Board of Cosmetology license). PYA2P student's academic courses occur at NMTCC and focus on entrepreneurship and leadership. Students may opt to participate in "Dual Enrollment", which allows them to earn college credits in these academic areas as well. If we are to maintain our world-class economy some drastic measures must be taken. We must train competent workers to replace our dwindling resources of highly skilled employees.  This employer driven program combines on-the-job training in conjunction with the training that the students are receiving in their program of study at NMTCC. Juniors will spend two full days (Monday and Tuesday) working at a participating employer work-site learning technical skills from an experienced mentor. Seniors will do the same but are available to work three full days (Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday). These Apprentices will receive both integrated academics and technical skills while attending NMTCC.

In both of these programs, student workers must be able to produce two pay stubs each month to prove they are not being paid "under the table" as well as complete a daily work log of their experiences.

We have recently signed on with JobreadyWBL which will make our student employment paperwork virtually paperless. Please fill out your employer data below. This information will not be shared and will only be utilized to process student employment paperwork should you be interested in hiring one of our students in the future.

For more information about these programs or if you are interested in hiring our students, feel free to e-mail me at [email protected] or call (215)368-1177 x130.

Sincerely,
